Volunteerism

I was raised by my parents to value volunteering. Below is a sampling of the volunteerism in which I have been engaged in Marina.

Marina Planning Commission - I have served on the City of Marina Planning Commission since August, 2015. In that time I have stood up for Marina by supporting affordable housing projects and bringing new businesses to Marina.

Friends of Marina Parks - I am a founding member of Friends of Marina Parks (FOMP) and currently serve as its Treasurer. FOMP has hosted monthly park cleanups in Marina since 20017. We have made improvements at the library, the oak woodland, Vince DiMaggio Park, and Glorya Jean Tate Park. We hope to continue doing park clean ups and representing the community of Marina park users.

Parenting Connection of Monterey County - I have served as the Treasurer of the Parenting Connection of Monterey County (PCMC) since 2015. The Parenting Connection provides play and learn classes for children ages 0-5, programs for parents, and programs that support maternal mental health.

Marina Labor Day Parade and Festival Committee - I have served on the Marina Labor Day Parade and Festival Committee since 2015. In that time we have added food trucks, a chili cook-off, more live bands, and DJs to the festival.

Graffiti cleanup - Inspired by Marina Mayor, Bruce Delgado, I began graffiti removal in 2014. I continue to remove graffiti that I see around the city.

City department head interview panels - I have been honored to serve as the citizen representative on the interview panels for both the Public Works Director and the Police Chief.

Beach Cleanups - I volunteer annually at the Citizens for a Sustainable Marina/Surfrider beach cleanups.

Santa - In 2017 I was honored to be asked to be Santa. I would like to say I started a diet the next day, but that would be a lie. I'll probably be Santa from here on out owing to my natural "jolliness".

Marina Democratic Club - I serve as a volunteer member of the Marina Democratic Club Executive Board. Each year the Marina Democratic Club picks a key issue in the city to raise awareness around. I am proud to be a member of this club.

Monterey County Democratic Central Committee - In 2016 I was elected to serve on the Monterey County Democratic Central Committee, representing Supervisor District 4. In this capacity I work to support Democratic values and elect Democrats to office.

Monterey Bay Central Labor Council - I have served as a delegate to the Monterey Bay Central Labor Council since 2011. In that capacity I work to advance issues affecting the working class in Monterey and Santa Cruz County.
